Everest High Pass Trek is the most adventurous trek for advanced travellers those who have acclimatised the higher altitude since the route passes through the high altitude over 5,500 metres or 18,045 feet.The route of this trek passes through three high mountain passes; Kongma La (5,535 metres or 18,159 feet), Cho La (5420 metres or 17,782feet)  and Renjo La (5,340 metres or 17,520 feet). The summit of the high pass offers the magnificent views of Mount Everest (8848m), Mount Lhotse (8516m), Mount Cho Oyu (8152m), Mount Ama Dablam (6812m), Mount Makalu (8463m), Mount Nuptse, Thamserku, Kantega Peak, Island Peak (6189m), Lobuche Peak, Khumbutse Peak, Mount Pumori, Cholatse, Taboche, and Peak 38 among other mountains.The versatility of this 19-day long circuit trek is that it connects the Everest Base Camp (5,364 metres or 17, 598 feet) with Kalapatthar (5,545 metres or 18,192 feet), Gokyo Lakes (4,700 metres or 15,400ft) and Gokyo Ri (5,357 metres, 17,575 feet), the important points which offer the magnificent view of Himalayas.The route of the Everest High Pass runs through diverse landscapes around Mount Everest exploring the oldest monasteries in Tyangboche and culturally important Sherpa villages such as Thame, Marlung and settlements in Nangpa La Valley which are among the major attractions in the Khumbu Region.The Everest High Pass trek includes the visit to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites which includes Monkey temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square in Kathmandu and Sagarmatha National Park in the mountain region.The vegetation found at the higher altitude in the region includes fir, juniper, birch and rhododendron, scrub and alpine plant communities while pine and hemlock forests are common at the lower altitude. The vegetations in the region are home to various mammals such as red panda, snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, marten, Himalayan mouse hare (pika) and over 118 species of bird including the Impeyan pheasant, snow cock, blood pheasant, red-billed cough and others.

Detailed Itinerary

We receive you from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) upon your arrival. Our vehicle brings you to the hotel in Thamel in 20- 30 minutes drive. After taking rest in the hotel, we hold a meeting over dinner to plan your trip. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, we go to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley. We visit the famous Hindu Temple, Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath Stupa that lies in the northeastern part of the Valley. The Swoyambhunath Temple also called the monkey temple on the hill in the western skirt of Kathmandu offers an opportunity to study the whole city in bird’s view. Kathmandu Durbar Square, built during Malla Dynasty exhibits the finest wood carvings and arts. You get an opportunity to explore the typical Newari culture and cuisines.

In the early morning, we depart to Lukla from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). It is about a 40-minutes flight from TIA to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. We set on the Everest Base Camp trekking after we take breakfast in a restaurant. We continue trekking until we arrive at Phakding (2610 metre), a small village. We stay here overnight.

After breakfast, we trek along the trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River and Bhote Koshi River. We enter the Sagarmatha National Park via the entrance gate at Manjo. After crossing a suspension bridge amid pine forest, we ascend the steep trail before we reach Namche Bazar. The Bazar is the biggest market in the region and the most important hub for traders, making available the Tibetan antique items as well as the equipment and accessories for trekkers.

The Bazar has decent offices, hotels, internet cafes and many other offices and trading concerns; ATMs, Banks, military base camp, museum. On this day, we hike up to Khumjung via Sangboche. The passage of Sangboche and Khumjung offers a magnificent view of the Himalayas; Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde and others. Khumjung is also famous as the first climber of Everest Sir Edmond Hillary established a school here. Overnight stay in Namche Bazar.

After breakfast, we carry on trekking along the trail. At a point in Kyangiuma, the path divides; the left path leads to Gokyo Lake (4790 metres) while the right one leads to Everest first camp. We move along, crossing the suspension bridge, passing through the woods and keeping the view of mountains from time to time to reach Tyangboche. The place is famous for its oldest and one of the biggest monasteries in Nepal. Moreover, the place offers a marvellous view of mountains; Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku.

Hiking starts after breakfast in the morning. The trail passes through rhododendron woods until we arrive at Pangboche village. The trail offers the view of Mount Everest from time to time as we walk out the woods. We cross the Imza River and Lobuche River on this trail. Finally, we ascend to the Dingboche, a beautiful village from where we can view the mountains. Day 08: Trek from Dingboche to Chukkung (4730m) three and a half hours In the early morning, we explore the locality of Dingboche. The farms and fields belonging to settlements produce potatoes, buckwheat, turnips, short-stemmed barley and other leafy vegetables. We enjoy the view of golden Ama Dablam, Tawache, Chalotse, Nuptse-Lhotse, and Island Peak as we move ahead along the trail on the bank of Imja River. We cross the river before we arrive at Chhukung via Imja Valley. Since these areas are rarely populated, we can enjoy the tranquillity offered by nature. The place offers the gorgeous view of Mount Lhotse, Island Peak, Mount Ama Dablam, Makalu and others. We stay overnight in Chhukung.

In the wee hours, we incline the steep ascent on Chhukung Ri. The summit of the peak offers the splendid view as Ama Dablam and Amphu Labsa peaks reflect the morning sunlight. Here, we enjoy the breathtaking moment before we descend the trail back to Chhukung. We take breakfast and rest for a while before we explore the mountainous areas and rare settlements of Sherpas.

In the early morning, we prepare to cross Kongma La, the highest point on the entire trip. We cross the Niyang River and ascend on a hill along the trail. The rocky narrow trail is exciting and many a time it gets the adrenaline flowing. There are a cairn and Buddhist prayer flags at the summit of Kongma La pass. Here, we halt to enjoy the surroundings at this altitude before we descend along the trip’s most challenging trail on the moraine of Khumbu Glacier to Lobuche. Overnight stay in Lobuche.

After breakfast, we continue following the trail, keeping because of the Himalayas including Mount Everest, Pumori, Mahalangur, Lingtern, Khumbutse, Nuptse among other mountains. We ascend along the rocky trail to reach Thangma Riju, which offers a panorama of the mountain range. Further, we walk along the trail on Khumbu Glacier and make a steep ascent to arrive at Gorakshep, the last teahouse at this high altitude. We take rest in a hotel here before we head for Everest Base Camp (5,364 metres). The rocky path divides into two, the trail on the left heads for Kalapatthar while we follow the path on the right. We enjoy this enthralling trip to the base of the world’s Highest Peak Mount Everest. This is the time to realise the dream of keeping a closer connection with Mount Everest. This Everest First Camp (EBC) offers the splendid view of Mount Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori. Here, we enjoy the breathtaking moments before we return to Gorakshep. Overnight stay in Gorakshep.

In the early morning, we prepare well for the journey to Kalapatthar to catch the glimpse of morning sunlight that illuminates the world’s highest peak. The biting winds are common in this altitude. As we advance on the steep ascent along the trail, for several hours we reach atop the Kalapatthar (5,545 metres or 18,192 feet). We get the marvellous view of Mount Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse, Everest, Pumori, Nuptse around us. We enjoy the breathtaking moments in Kalapatthar before we return to Gorakshep. We take rest before we head for Lobuche descending along the trail. Overnight stay in Lobuche.

After breakfast, we advance along the descending path on Khumbu glacier. We enjoy the surroundings of Himalayas as we move ahead. Further walking ahead the path splits into two. The left path heads for Namche Bazar via Pheriche while the right one en routes for Dzongla destined for Cho La the second high pass. We follow this rocky trail amid moraines alongside Khumbu Glacier. We leave the sight of Lobuche Peak in a distant in the east as we approach the Awi Peak in the southwest. We continue the trail and cross a bridge over a rivulet before we arrive in Dzongla.

After breakfast, we continue our journey along the trail that passes by a lake before we ascend to a height. As we advance we view Mount Ama Dablam and Cholatse in the southwest. The boulders, rocks and open cracks on the glacier makes more difficult to move along the steep ascent until we gain access to the Cho La Pass. This pass is also adorned with Buddhist prayer flags and the cairns. We halt here and experience the magnificent views of mountains in all directions before we head for Gokyo. The descending trail is easier but a bit longer. We cross Ngozumpa Glacier, which is the longest glacier in Nepal. As we advance further we view two of the lakes that comprise Gokyo lakes. We stay overnight on the edge of the lake. The settlement is called Gokyo. Overnight stay in Gokyo.

In the early morning, we prepare to ascend Gokyo Ri (5,357 metres). In three hours we reach a viewpoint that offers the panorama of the mountain range. Four of the peaks are above 8,000 metres; Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu and other mountain ranges surround us from all direction. The view of glaciers is mesmerising, especially, Ngozumpa, the world’s largest glacier. We enjoy the view as sunlight radiating the peaks. After enjoying the breathtaking moment here we retrace to Gokyo. We take breakfast as we arrive back to the hotel. We explore the 4th and 5th lakes among the series of six lakes on this day. We reach out to the far end from where we get the view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Gyachung Kang including the world’s largest glacier. We retrace to the hotel in Gokyo and stay overnight.

In the early morning, we advance along with the easier trail corresponding to Dudh Koshi River. We walk for about two and a half hours before descending along the path to the Renjo La, the third pass. On the way, we get the view of mountains that include Rolwaling ranges. As we gain access to the pass, we get the magnificent view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu and other mountain ranges including the 3rd Gokyo Lake and the oblique view of Gokyo village. After we experience the moment here in the pass we descend along an icy staircase and pass by to arrive on the southern side of Angladumba Tsho Lake. Further, we pass by lakes Relama Tsho and Renjo to arrive at Marlung in the eastern bank of Bhote Koshi River.

In the morning we head for Marlung village, a Sherpa village. Further, we descend along the country path in the surroundings of green hills and Bhote Koshi River. We cross the suspension bridges over the river and descend farther to Namche Bazar. We make a stop here and stay overnight.

After breakfast, we descend along the steep rocky path. We meander along the bank of Bhote Koshi River as we cross suspension bridges several times. We make an exit from the Sagarmatha National park at Manjo. Here, we pass by several villages and farms. We head for Lukla following the trail via Phakding and Chaurikharka. We enjoy the view of Buddhist prayer flags, cairns and cemetery before we arrive at Lukla. We explore the markets in Lukla. Overnight stay in Lukla.

The early morning flight of about 40 minutes from Lukla to Kathmandu offers a closer view of the mountains one more time. On our arrival in Kathmandu, we check in hotel, take rest and hanging around the city for the time being.

      Trekking in the Himalayas requires equipment and footwear according to the season and the location. A single trek can start in the warm and humid climate in the lowlands, and bring you to passes above 5,000m. Solid trainers (“sneakers”) are adequate on most trails but bring sturdy boots for crossing passes that may be covered with snow. Climbing expeditions requires special equipment. Sandals and flip-flops are practical for an evening in lodges or camp. You can buy any kind of footwear in Nepal.   No, it is not possible to live off the land in Nepal. You cannot just set off into the woods with a little money, a basket and a fishing rod and expect to manage on your own, Not only is the vegetation where there are fruit, wild herbs and other wild edibles limited, private community-owned, but fish is sparse and hunting is forbidden. It can also be difficult to buy food locally due to scarcity and poverty.
